Technology is pervasive in homes of families with young children, despite evidence for negative associations between infant exposure to screen-based media and cognitive development that has led the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to discourage parents from exposing children under the age of 18 months to any kind of screen time (AAP, 2016). Here, we apply a propensity score matching approach to estimate relations between electronic screen-based media use in infancy and executive function in early toddlerhood. In an international sample of 416 firstborn infants, parental report of regular exposure to screen-based media at 4 months predicted poorer performance on a test of inhibition at 14 months, but was unrelated to either cognitive flexibility or working memory at 14 months. Results of this study are therefore consistent with the view that early exposure to screen-based media adversely affects the development of executive function.Relations between mothers' mind-mindedness (appropriate attunement to their infants' internal states) at 6 and 12 months and infants' early symbolic play during infant-mother pretense at 12 and 18 months were investigated in a sample of 43 mothers and infants. Mothers' appropriate mind-related comments were associated with average level, length, complexity, and maturity level of symbolic play. Specific sub-categories of appropriate mind-related comments were identified as independent predictors of children's symbolic play. Appropriate comments about desires and cognitions at 6 months were associated with average level and length of episodes, as well as with maturity level of symbolic play at 12 months. Longitudinal stability in the appropriateness and content of mothers' mind-related comments was also investigated. In University Hospital La Paz (Madrid, Spain), we reviewed the clinical and demographic characteristics of 10 patients with positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) PCR and Aspergillus spp. isolate in respiratory samples. We also recovered results of galactomannan tests in serum and/or bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples.
Eight male and two female from 51 to 76years were recovered. They had reported risk factors to develop IPA (haematological malignancies, immunosuppression, diabetes, obesity, intensive care unit stay, among others). Azole susceptible Aspergillus fumigatus was isolated in nine patients and Aspergillus nidulans was isolated in one patient. Only one case was classified as probable aspergillosis, seven cases as putative aspergillosis, and two cases were not classifiable. Eight patients received antifungal treatment. #link# Seven patients died (70%), two are still inpatient due to nosocomial infections and one was discharged referred to another institution.

Morphologic resemblance to epithelioid sarcoma and other spindle cell neoplasms may result in diagnostic confusion. Molecular characterization of pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma has revealed these neoplasms often harbor a rearrangement of the FOSB gene with SERPINE1 or ACTB as recurrent fusion gene partners. Herein, a case of a fibular pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma with minimal extension into the adjacent soft tissue arising in a 17?year-old male is presented. The neoplasm exhibited sheets of epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and variably eccentric nuclei. RNA sequencing revealed a novel CLTC-FOSB fusion transcript that was subsequently confirmed by direct sequencing of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction products demonstrating an in-frame fusion between exon 17 of the clathrin heavy chain (CLTC) gene and exon 2 of the FOSB (FosB proto-oncogene, AP-1 transcription factor subunit) gene. Similarly, the link between maternal sleep disturbance and infant cognition depended on infant sleep quality. For infants with poorer sleep consolidation, increased maternal sleep disturbance predicted poorer infant general cognitive ability. For infants with better sleep consolidation, maternal sleep disturbance was positively related to both general cognitive ability and attention behavior. These findings suggest that infant sleep quality moderates the impact of environmental factors on cognitive functioning.
